Jim Coll Memorial Stunt Contest Photos

The First Jim Coll Memorial Stunt Contest was well attended by pilots from all over. For those who didn't know Jim, words sufficient to explain the special place he holds in our hearts do not come easy. For those who did know Jim, well you have your own words which will suit you better than mine will. I was amazed to see so many "others" who knew Jim seemingly as well as we did. I like to think that the visitors to our field were as happy to meet his home town friends as we were to meet them and connect and remember Jim. From our club perspective, Jim was the man who clung to control line flying while the rest of the world moved to RC. He was perhaps the only man who could have moved the club to carve a 'private circle' to support his interest when he was the only member flying control line. It was he who worked tirelessly to encourage renewed interest in control line flying at the field. He would have been over the moon with the event we just shared. Jim was the man who mowed the grass each week for several years, who flew at the field almost every day (unless he was off to some mysterious contest somewhere), who helped build and cover club raffle plane kits, who knew everything about everything ... and wasn't afraid to tell you when you got it wrong. He helped teach me to fly RC. I sure wish I had been a better listener. It is obvious that some men leave a lasting mark on the world - Jim was one of those men.
